Lake Gaston's beauty is shared by North Carolina and Virginia. It was created in 1963, with the construction of Virginia Electric and Power Company's Gaston Dam. It lies along the border of the states - roughly in the area between Interstates 85 and 95. Recreational opportunities abound. Lake Gaston's 20.300 acres span 34 miles along the Roanoke River, providing ample space for all water-oriented activities. The clean, clear water of the lake is home to many species of fish, including bass and striped bass which are stocked by the VA and NC Wildlife commissions.
Swimming and water skiing are, of course very popular, as is simply cruising in your boat and enjoying the view. Pontoon boats are everywhere. With lots of open, main lake area and many creeks, coves and inlets, Lake Gaston provides all varieties of waterborne fun. |
